Unleash the Inner Fat-Kid!

I totally unleashed my inner fat kid today. I can’t help it if there are so many FREE goodies around the office for my tasting pleasure! I had the opportunity to try some of the new Werther’s milk chocolate & caramel chews. All I can say is – O.M.G. They are so dangerous. Now that I know of these little gems, I have a feeling they will be around more often ;)! We also had some yummy chocolate-orange cookies hanging around today. Obviously, I had to give them some love, too! MM MM good.

Anyway, I jumped a bit ahead there… just had to let that out – whew!

Last night I went out for dins & drinks with my boyfriend’s sister, Laura. After almost six years of dating Duncan, this was our first time going out just the two of us! Isn’t that whacky?! We obviously have spent lots of other time together, but always with other friends, on a double date, or with family. Needless to say, it was AWESOME to spend some one-on-one time with her. She is such a doll and I’m so lucky to have her in my life!

We went to South of Temperance, a restaurant/bar in the Financial District. It’s one of my favourite places to go as it has such a unique menu (food + drink) and an unreal atmosphere.

We started with a round of drinks. I had a super tasty cocktail with Pimms, soda, cucumber, strawberry, ginger + mint. Half of me wanted to just admire it’s beauty, but it was just too delicious to waste 😉

For dinner, I had a classic burger with a side salad of mixed greens, smoked white cheddar, shredded apple, walnuts + grapes. It was, without a doubt, the best burger I have ever had. Very surprising, considering this place isn’t known for them!

After dins, we split a chocolate cake. It was decent (at best). Perhaps I’m being too harsh, but I just hate “meh” desserts – it feels like such a waste! In my opinion, if you’re going to go for dessert.. it better be a 10 outta 10!

Have you seen my new sippy cup?

I’m kind of in love with it. I’ve been wanting to buy a proper smoothie sippy cup for a while now & finally manned up and just bought one at Shopper’s (best place in the world). I put it to good use with a PB & banana smoothie. In the mix – skim milk, natural peanut butter, one banana, vanilla yogurt, + flax. It’s SO convenient to be able to mix my own smoothies at home now rather than buying them at Booster Juice or Jugo (to say nothing of the $ savings!). I also like knowing what’s going into smoothies, as a lot of places don’t actually put in much real fruit, but fill it up with concentrated juices and/or sorbets. Not cool.

After eating my way through sugar mountain at work today, I did a quick grocery shop & then headed up to the gym.

I’ll start by saying it was probably my most humbling experience at the gym to date.

Why, you ask? Well… I tried the ToneItUp Tuesdays workout for the first time. When I watched the video of K&K going through the routine, I was thinking it looked like a good workout, but nothing I couldn’t handle. Ooooooo was I wrong.

First of all, plyometrics is my worst enemy. I absolutely HATE & struggle doing them so much. They are so great for torching fat & spiking the metabolism & for really challenging your body, so I definitely want to work on improving being able to survive through a workout. I literally couldn’t even do the pop’n push up. If you’re up for the challenge (don’t be scared ;)) .. please do try it out & let me know how it goes! Maybe knowing that someone is able to survive this will make me motivated to try it again. Next time, I’ll leave my pride at the door hahah!

By the way, ToneitUp! is an amazing online community. It was developed by sisters Karena & Katrina and they have built an amazing platform for sharing recipes & workouts and have cultivated a real sense of accountability among their members. They are SO motivating! Every month they release a calendar with goals on each day. I just started following it & have found it really inspiring. Check it out!

Anyway, so after my failed attempt at doing their workout, I did my own Total Body Circuit Workout. To try it yourself, complete a round of Sequence 1 with no rest in between exercises. Once one round is complete, rest for one minute & repeat. Then, move onto Sequence 2, and so on….

Sequence 1

Rest one minute, then repeat.

Sequence 2

  • Lat Pulldown – 40 lb. x 12 reps
  • Seated Row (on cable machine) – 50 lb. x 12 reps
  • Donkey Kickbacks – 15 reps
  • Bicep Curls – 10 lb. x 12 reps

Rest one minute, then repeat.

Sequence 3

  • Plank – one minute
  • Leg Circles – 15 reps
  • Side Plank – 30 seconds each side
  • Squats – 30 lb. x 10 repsRest one minute, then repeat.

Time: ~30 minutes

Dinner tonight was gourrrrrmeeeet. I was feeling like Julia Child ;).

On the plate – maple salmon, roasted sweet potatoes + broccoli, & mixed greens with pear, candied pecans, walnuts + shaved parmesan. MMMM.

Tonight, Duncan & I are celebrating our “live-a-versary.” to mark our first year living together. Hahahahah. Yes, that’s something to be celebrated ;). We had plans to go out, but decided we’ll do it on a weekend instead!

Hope your week is going well so far! Goodnight 🙂
